JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Cook performs complex food preparation work. Work
involves planning, preparing, seasoning, and cooking food; maintaining inventories and records of food consumption; and making
recommendations for improvement. May assign and/or supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with moderate
latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Studies cooking and kitchen operations, notes areas in need of correction or improvement, and makes recommendations for improving operating efficiency.
- Seasons and prepares food as needed.
- Checks and tastes food during preparation for conformance to standards.
- Knowledge of cooking and baking, and in the use and care of food preparation appliances and equipment.
- Reports kitchen equipment in need of repair or replacement.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and prepares requisitions for needed items as appropriate.
- Knowledge of health and safety codes related to nutritional services.
- Knowledge of quantity food preparation techniques and procedures, and of modified and calculated diet preparation methods.
- Knowledge of procedure manuals and an ability to interpret these effectively to staff, family members and community providers.
- May assign and/or supervise the work of others.
- Displays regular and reliable attendance. Reports to and departs from work on time, as scheduled, and accurately reflects all time on timecard.
- Resourcefulness, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.
- Utilizes logical problem-solving techniques both independently and in collaboration with workers in dealing with client needs.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED.
- Some college preferred.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.
- Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
- Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
