Suncoast Behavioral Health Center offers a unique treatment programs across inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient settings for children and adolescents.
In a highly specialized field of psychiatry, our goal is to promote cognitive, social, physical and emotional development to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to help our patients succeed.
The Hospital is looking for an Admissions Counselor (Sunday - Wednesday: 1PM – 11:30PM) who would be responsible for coordination of all admissions processes and serves as liaison to referral sources, families, payors, physicians, and hospital personnel involved with each admission. The Counselor is responsible for processing of inquiry and referral calls and responds to request for hospital and program information, assessment, and possible admission.
Responsibilities also include verifying insurance, triaging patients, completing assessments, entering calls and admissions in computer and completing all admission paperwork with patient. The Admissions Counselor is responsible for effectively communicating with patients, physicians, staff, referral sources and managed care organizations to obtain precertification.

Qualifications
Excellent communication skills, i.e., verbal and written. Ability to prioritize; work well under periods of high stress and pressure. Ability to multi-task and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Demonstrates an understanding of funding entities. Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services provided by the hospital. Ability to work flexible hours. Requires a basic understanding of computers; and accurate data entry skills. Knowledge of insurance contracts and payors. Knowledge of precertification for inpatient hospitalization. Experience gathering and documenting medical and clinical information to assess and staff appropriately with physician. Ability to triage for psychiatric needs. Working knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic criteria, mental status exam, and addiction and recovery field. Excellent customer service skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, visitors, families and referral sources.
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or Human Services field.
- 1-3 years of experience preferred in psychiatric health care. Working knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic criteria, mental status exam, and addiction and recovery field.
- Medium demand, mentally. Requires extensive time sitting, writing, and talking on telephone. Ability to assist in crisis intervention, physical intervention with out of control patients. Must be able to participate in and complete Handle With Care Training on an annual basis.
