St. Mary’s is a 229-bed, acute care hospital located in Enid, OK.  St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has served the healthcare needs of northwest Oklahoma for more than 100 years.  We host more than 125 highly skilled physicians offering specialties in Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, Rehabilitation, Laboratory, Women’s Imaging, Wound Care, and more.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the effective coordination and supervision of all the functions in the assigned laboratory section or on the assigned shift. This includes scheduling, training, budgeting that promotes cost containment, and the recognition of analytical results or problems that require referral to the Medical Director and Director. Responsible for the maintenance of policies and procedures, quality control monitoring and practices, proficiency testing, and integration of the assigned section or shift into the overall functioning of the Department and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Over-site and supervision of section/shift activities will be in accordance with established Hospital, Department, and regulatory policies and procedures. The Lead Technologist, Medical (ASCP) supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to set priorities to achieve maximum efficiency during the scheduled shift without interfering with the quality of work as demonstrated by completion of work within established time frames or shifts.
  • Selects, recommends, and implements technology and testing methodologies which are authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director, and which are appropriate for clinical utilization within a specified time frame with no more than three (3) exceptions per 12-month period.
  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive quality control program, which is reviewed for appropriateness, outliers, shifts, and trends daily and/or within established time frames with no more than two (2) exceptions per 12-month period.
  • Ensures that patient test results are valid and reported accurately and within established time frames utilizing properly functioning test systems with no more than four (4) documented exceptions per 12-month period.
  • Reviews work of other staff in area(s) of responsibility within 24 hours. (May be delegated but is accountable).

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate degree with a major in medical technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related science required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience minimum required; 5-8 is preferred.
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) required.
  • Must meet the personnel requirements as outlined by CLIA ‘88.
  • Mathematical, computer, reasoning and language skills at the undergraduate or graduate level required.
