What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Tech - Ultrasound position at UHS?

Assists Radiologists and Cardiologists as needed in scheduling and performing ultrasound procedures. Insures accuracy and quality of diagnostic images produced. Coordinates daily scheduling and personnel in ultrasound. Responsible for daily workflow, ordering and maintaining inventory, and assures equipment functions properly. Responsible for orientating employees and provides input in the evaluation of Sonographers. Answers technical questions related to procedures and equipment. Call is required. Performs all duties according to Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
- Coordinates all patient care and technical activities within the Ultrasound division to include diagnostic Ultrasound, vascular, echo, and non-invasive procedures.
- Ensures adequate staffing by effectively utilizing staff resources to achieve maximum productivity and quality patient care.
- Ensures all procedures are completed in a timely manner while maintaining all quality standards.
- Coordinates the effective utilization of available equipment resources through appropriate scheduling and planning.
- Ensures all equipment operates according to safety standards and all technologists are fully competent in the proper operation of equipment.
- Regularly checks the quality of exams performed by staff technologists to ensure all appropriate standards are being maintained.
- Proficient with the use of ultrasound and interventional procedures. Including assisting physicians at bedside, and insuring sterile technique/sterile field maintenance.
- Performs and maintains QC records on all probe disinfecting /infection control (Trophon, TD-100 etc.)
- Proficiently utilizes the Cerner, Radnet, Scheduling, and Powerchart modules for patient information entry/review.
- Able to assist in burning CD's for patient data copying.
- Able to proficiently send images and documentation as needed for off-site review to imaging review service. Knows how to troubleshoot transmission problems when they arise.
- Performs all Sonography exams required by the physician, utilizing proper positioning and technical standards.
- Accurately identifies normal and pathological processes and distinguishes them from artifacts.
- Assures patient requisition is accurate and completed immediately upon exam.
- Provides physician with accurate patient history and technical impressions.
- Documents and records information required on films and requisitions.
- Works with Director in establishing capital and operations budget.
- Regularly monitors divisional performance and makes recommendations for improvements and/or corrections. This includes the education of ultrasound students.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities by developing and monitoring departmental studies and by actively working on hospital wide teams.
- Insures all records and proper documentation are appropriate for regulatory compliance.
- Submits appropriate reports regarding division performance to Director. Reports include but not limited to budget variances, staffing targets, etc.
- Coordinates and ensures orientation for new employees. Monitoring, approving and maintaining their competencies.
- Coordinates continuing education opportunities for Sonographers and insures that personal CE requirements are maintained for licensure.
- Provides fair and objective input to the Director to assist in completing performance appraisals.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
- A.R.D.M.S. or equivalent registry in vascular, abdomen and OB/GYN or other registries a plus/benefit
- Experience in Echocardiology.
- BLS required.
- Minimum of two years previous diagnostic and cardiac ultrasound experience
- General Sonography vascular experience is required.
- Previous lead/supervisory experience is preferred.
