The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.
The Mental Health Worker III is responsible for assisting the Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager with planning and oversight of the Mental Health Worker patient care role for assigned program and shift with the overall goal of facilitating the provision of continuous and safe patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients. Additional responsibilities differentiating this position from the basic MHT II role include being the primary facilitator of designated program informational/education groups with advanced skills, assigning and at times assuming the role of formal preceptors for new staff, participation on committees, and assistance with the overall management of the milieu, assist with applicant interviews, new hire orientation, mentoring, teaching compliance workshops (CPR, CPI, Verbal De-escalation, and Group Facilitation if certified.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in humanities, social work, or related therapeutic discipline preferred.
- Certification as an instructor for one or more of the following preferred: CPR, CPI, Verbal De-escalation, or Advanced Verbal De-escalation, preferred.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
- Minimum of one year of service with Sierra Vista Hospital as a MHTII.
Additional Requirements:
- Current CPR Certification required in addition to the successful completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and before completion of their initial orientation period upon hire. CPR certification and behavioral management certification must be maintained during employment.
- May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
- Assist with special projects as requested by nurse manager and/or CNO.
