What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outpatient RN PRN position at UHS?
The Brook Hospital Dupont, located at 1405 Browns Lane, is hiring a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) for our PHP/IOP services department.
Pay Rate: $40 per hour

The Brook – Dupont, located in Louisville, KY, is an 88-bed hospital offering a full continuum of inpatient, extended care, partial hospitalization and outpatient services for children and adults.
The RN participates in treatment planning as a member of interdisciplinary team; provides assessment of patients’ psychiatric and medical status; administers medication and medical treatment as prescribed by physician; assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations; provide and direct milieu management, and additional tasks as needed. Best candidates for this position will have behavioral health experience, a strong work-ethic, and highly consistent timeliness and attendance!
Job Duties
- Demonstrates understanding of chemical dependency and 12 Step Program
- Actively participates in patient groups
- Identifies verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behavior and applies de-escalation techniques to situation
- Observes and interprets each patients behavior, demonstrating an understanding of psychiatric concepts, diagnoses and developmental stage
- Observes and interprets each patient behavior, demonstrating an understanding of chemical dependency concepts, diagnosis and developmental stage
- Recognizes symptoms of active detox and refers patient to appropriate care-giver
- Integrates data gathered from the family, significant others, and other members of the treatment team into the assessment
- Accurately assesses patients in crisis and takes appropriate action to insure patient’s safety
- Reviews medical screening on each PHP patient and refers if necessary to appropriate care giver
- Completes comprehensive nursing assessment and initiates nursing interventions within 24 to 48 hours of admission on psychiatric and chemical dependency PHP patients
- Demonstrates knowledge of actions, indications and contraindications, side effects, correct dosages and routes, and nursing implications of drugs and seeks appropriate intervention for the side effect
- Serves as a resource in assisting adults and families in understanding medications and treatment, side effects, and long-term benefits; or can direct adult/family to alternative resources

Qualifications
- Must be a licensed RN to practice in Kentucky and be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Must have Nursing experience providing direct patient care and maintain current CPR.
- Preferred: BSN and Preferred two (2) years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness.
