Staff/Nurse Educator
Full-Time
We are currently seeking a Staff/Nurse Educator to join our talented and caring team. Our ideal candidate will possess strong multitasking skills, great communication skills with the ability to engage positively with patients, staff, families, providers, etc., must work well under pressure with several competing priorities and maintain professional at all times.
The Staff/Nurse Educator is responsible for developing, coordinating and conducting of clinical and facility-wide staff education. Provides education and training to staff based on requirements established by Joint Commission, State and Federal guidelines, as well as those recommended by management/QI findings which will enable staff to maintain and improve required levels of knowledge and skills to perform their jobs. Under supervision by the Infection Preventionist, the Staff/Nurse Educator also acts in the role of Infection Control Nurse and coordinates the Infection Control program in collaboration with the interdisciplinary Safety/Infection Control Committee.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred.
Experience:
Requires five (5) years experience as a Registered Nurse. Requires two (2) years experience as a Nurse/Staff Educator. Prefer one (1) year experience in psychiatric nursing. Knowledge of current nursing procedures, the nursing process, medications and their correct administration.
Licensure/Certification:
Current NC State Registered Nurse (or compact state)
AHA CPR & First Aid
Knowledge and Skills:
- Leadership, supervision, facilitation and direction to RNs and Mental Health Technicians
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care and the milieu
- Knowledge of model age, growth, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic communication in all interactions
- Ability to administer medication & treatment as prescribed and document properly
- Ability to document nursing care and treatment progression through timely & accurate chart entries & nursing care plan updates
- Knowledge of Treatment Plan, and special treatment procedures
- Ability to assess, direct, and intervene in crisis situations
- Ability to conduct in-services training such as HCS, Medication Administration, and Nursing Department Orientation
- Ability to assess, develop, coordinate, and evaluate staff development programs
- Ability to develop and coordinate “on the job shadowing” training time for all new-hires
- Skill in conducting orientation and training for new employees, ongoing training and feedback meetings
Physical Requirements:
Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease. Requires walking and standing often. Requires frequently speaking on the telephone. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Able to assist with the restraint of individuals weighing up to 250 pounds. Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions. Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to perform CPI techniques. Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending Physicians, and other department representatives.

- Work first, second or third shift or any day of the week
- Travel by car and/or air
Environment: Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated area, with high traffic flow of patients, visitors, staff, and others.
Job Hazards:
Employee may be exposed to:
- Internal/External disasters in which appropriate policies, procedures, and plans must be followed to protect personnel, patients, and staff;
- Infections/communicable diseases and hazardous/toxic agents.
- Encounter some chemical listed in the MSDS sheets.
Other: Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention with physically aggressive patients which may involve some personal risk.
