Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a residential and acute program, for males and females ages 8-21, consist of a cognitive behavioral treatment model that encourages youth to safely explore thoughts and feelings related to the development of positive and desirable behavior within their homes and communities. Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment. It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.
Newport News Behavioral Health Center has an excellent career opportunity for a Substitute Teacher to join our team of dedicated professionals. This position is responsible for planning and providing instruction for students assigned to his/her classroom. He/She participates in departmental meetings and completes paperwork pertaining to assessment, individualized education plans, monitoring student progress, reporting student progress, and transition planning as related to each student’s educational needs. Provides education case management for students assigned to his/her classroom. He/She must maintain ongoing communication with the families and involved agencies for each student.

Job Requirements
Must have an Associates Degree in Education or related field; Bachelors Degree is preferred. Preferred knowledge of Virginia Special Education regulations, IEP development and behavior management techniques. Demonstrate some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching. Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff. Prefer at least 2 years of experience substitute teaching at the middle or high school level. Experience with behavior management techniques, and previous classroom experience in a special education and/or mental health setting is preferred.
