What you’ll do We are looking for an experienced scientist to lead our global analytical science activities supporting the application of High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) to solve challenges in synthetic chemistry. The individual will have extensive knowledge of the field of analytical science within the pharmaceutical industry, encompassing both the technical, equipment, and data requirements to support synthetic chemistry. Working as part of a global team with responsibility across business departments and locations, you will solve data and technology problems, as well as identify the science and technology innovations required to support and develop AstraZeneca’s strategic capability in HTE. A passion for working in new scientific areas and developing solutions to technical and project challenges is a key requirement for the role, as well as working across boundaries bridging technical subject areas, handling collaborators and external partners. By driving innovation, contributing to subject area networks, and delivering presentations and publications, you will develop your profile and improve AstraZeneca’s reputation. Main Duties and Responsibilities Global role to lead and co-ordinate all analytical science aspects of HTE across the pipeline, from late discovery chemistry to on-market drug projects Owns and is responsible for analytical HTE strategy and works with the global team to define broader HTE strategy which will continue to evolve with advances in internal and external science Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advances (such as technical, automation, data, predictive analytics) in analytical HTE, identifying potential benefits for the business Engage with partners globally to ensure support and consensus for purchase of analytical equipment and capability to support specific local HTE requirements Work with appropriate experts in data science/IT to ensure systems are in place for efficient generation, capture, storage and reuse of data according to FAIR principals with the ability to support data-driven modelling Builds a strong strategic relationship with external technology suppliers to influence the development of technologies, workflows, data analysis tools and predictive analytics Essential criteria Degree or equivalent scientific qualification in a relevant subject area Extensive knowledge and experience in the field of analytical science within the pharmaceutical industry, encompassing both the technical, equipment, and data requirements to support synthetic chemistry. Understanding of the analytical requirements to support the application of High-Throughput Experimentation to solve challenges in synthetic chemistry Ability to think and operate across functional boundaries, challenge the status quo and seek opportunities for business improvement Proven problem solver with in depth technical skills.
