What are the responsibilities and job description for the Calibration Technician position at UL?

Under general supervision, provides laboratory technical support including the calibration, fabrication, setup, verification,maintenance and repair of laboratory instrumentation, automated test systems and test fixtures where basic knowledge of the underlying scientific and engineering fundamentals is required.

  • Works to improve existing laboratory tests and processes by identifying and applying new laboratory instrumentation, automation and test fixtures
  • Responds to user requests to repair and/or modify existing laboratory instrumentation, automated systems and test fixtures.
  • As applicable, records observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms as the record oflaboratory support activities. May plan laboratory support activities, and evaluate results, as directed.
  • Builds, installs, tests and validates instrumentation, automated systems and test fixtures for laboratory tests and processes to ensure they meet technical and safety requirements.
  • Updates and maintains automation hardware and/or software as needed.
  • Prepares technical documentation such as manual instructions for hardware and software, calibration procedures, test method validations, etc.
  • Advises and trains others on the use of laboratory instrumentation, automated systems and test fixtures,.
  • Assists in developing annual budgetary goals, capital expenditure budget for laboratory equipment, and tactical plans for the assigned laboratory section.
  • Defines the engineering units, ranges, and/or acceptance criteria of instruments to be externally calibrated based on manufacturer’s equipment specifications, standard requirements and/or accreditations. Checks, verifies and accepts calibration certificates from external calibration service provider(s)
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
