UCT is seeking an experienced and talented Buyer to join our team in Austin, TX! Under supervision and guidance, the individual in this role performs a variety of mid-level tasks relating to the purchasing function. This is a position requiring work on problems of moderate scope where the analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. The Buyer exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Able to efficiently purchase 1 to 2 commodities.
- Purchase and expedite materials, components, equipment, and services from a variety of sources for the operation of the organization.
- Check requisitions and MRP order demands, obtain quotes, examine bids, and make awards to procure needed items and services.
- Maintain current supply sources and supplier relationships
- Coordinate purchasing activities with the engineering, manufacturing, and planning functions to maintain inventory at planned levels.
- Monitor the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned commodities to ensure the best quality at the best value.
- Identify and negotiate with suppliers to provide the best lead time, pricing & quality.
- Responsible for year over year cost reductions for materials.
- Participate in evaluating supplier reliability when required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of quick-turn, engineer-to-order environment a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read engineering drawings desired.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with suppliers and internal customers.
- Strong PC skills to include Microsoft Office software suites (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP software desired.
Educational/Certification Requirement:
- Bachelors’ degree in Supply Chain Management or related discipline preferred. Directly related experience may be considered.
- APICS/NAPM certification a plus.
Experience Requirement:
- 2 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
