Position Reports to Title: Various Managers
- Position Summary:
This position is accountable for assessing, planning, directing and evaluating patient care in the area of responsibility. Ensures adherence to HealthAlliance policies and procedures and supports and fosters the mission and vision of the HealthAlliance system. Responsible for the quality of care provided to patients and the processes that lead to continuous performance improvement. The role includes clinical practice, staff development and continuing education, management and leadership, consultation and research. Works with members of administration, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure lines of communication are open and processes for problem resolution are in place.
- Major Responsibilities:
- Completes staffing for the department and weekly payroll submission based on MNA and SEIU contract guidelines.
- Focuses on performance improvement initiatives.
- Responsible for auditing nursing documentation and maintaining adherence to HAH documentation standards.
- Maintains compliance with Core Measures.
- Develops a state of constant readiness for Regulatory Agency Surveys and provision of maximum levels of service excellence.
- Initiates educational opportunities in collaboration with Nurse Educators or conducts specialty education as needed.
- Assumes RN staff responsibilities as needed per resource availability.
- Conforms to unit specific policies and age specific competencies.
- Develops policies and procedures to ensure quality and safe delivery of care.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates adequate staffing to address staffing needs for delivery of services.
- Monitors supervision and evaluation of staff job performances.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates budget plan and cost control measures.
- Participates in safety surveys, drills and mock codes in conjunction with Safety Committee and security and coordinates the Department’s function in any such activities.
Standard Management Level Responsibilities:
- Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
- Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
- Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
- Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
- Meets established productivity standards.
- Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.
- Takes responsibility for ensuring that all work outcomes satisfy the UMass Memorial Health System True North.

- Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
- Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

- Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- BLS certified
- Certifications required per specialty might include ACLS, NRP, PALS etc.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree
- National certification in specialty
Experience/Skill:
Required:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in specialty nursing with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience
- Extensive knowledge of specialty practices, standards and trends as well as the ability to keep current on new efforts
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of TJC, OSHA, HCFA and EMTALA regulations as well as standards of care from pertinent specialty organizations
- Demonstrated leadership
- Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English

- Experience in professional development
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
