Newborn Nursery Assistant Education and Experience : Applicant has completed Nurse Aide course and presents Nurse Aid Certification.
PCA or PCT certification also acceptable No previous hospital experience is required, but preferred. On the job training provided.
Computer experience preferred, even if minimal. Environmental / Working Conditions Works inside and under normal temperate conditions with adequate light, in a well-ventilated, clean area.
Some areas are limited in space, and some test areas may be warm. Usually works around others, may expect some moderate noise.
Frequently works with biologic or infectious agents and may be exposed to communicable diseases. May come in contact with irritating chemicals or sprays.
Department Description
The Family Care Unit is an exciting and unique nursing unit that provides care for women and newborns. Located in the UMC East Tower, the Family Care Unit (FCU) staff provide mother-baby care as well as nursing care for other types of medical surgical patients.
Populations served in the FCU include, stable antepartum (pregnant), gynecology, gynecology-oncology, and medical-surgical overflow patients.
Job Description Responsible for providing basic patient care under the supervision of an RN or LVN. Duties many include, assisting with newborn / infant hearing screenings / procedures / baths, data collection and database entry, maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies, patient observation, vital sign measurement / documentation, performing EKG’s, and reporting changes in patient conditions.
Adheres to policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
Work frequently requires much walking, standing, carrying, talking, hearing and listening.
Skills and Abilities Should speak intelligently and in a professional manner before others, demonstrate good public relations, demonstrate assertiveness, flexibility and tact.
Perform technical procedures as assigned. Have ability and competence to operate necessary equipment. Must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and personnel.
Adapt to emergency conditions. Be alert to changes in the patient’s condition. Demonstrate economic use of time. Know techniques of assisting and handling patients.
Understand Departmental / Facility policies, procedures and regulations. Be aware of inter / intra departmental communication.
