What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Manager position at unc?
The purpose of this position is to manage maintenance needs and oversee facilities-related projects for all law school facilities. The position is expected to assess physical needs to determine if jobs can be handled in-house, by UNC Facilities Services, or an outside vendor by assessing scope of work and budget. When projects are outsourced to UNC Facilities Services or an outside vendor, this position will oversee the work to ensure it is carried out appropriately. Project supervision spans multiple areas and can include HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, abatement, flooring, masonry, and painting, among others. These projects can include maintenance, repair, replacement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design.The position also oversees work prep and planning for furniture at all law school facilities, renovations, electrical needs, set-ups for events held at law school facilities, management of physical and electronic access to the school, managing contracted UNC Police security services, oversight of certain safety plans for law school facilities, oversight of housekeeping services provided by central campus, and supervising the law school's Facility Maintenance Technician. This position's success is imperative to the overall success of the school. To be successful, the individual in this position must be a strong communicator and collaborator to a wide range of groups and individuals, and have the ability to be a consensus builder. A positive attitude and the ability to plan ahead are also necessary.
