Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Student Engagement, the Student Career Support Manager performs managerial and student services functions that support the career development of students. Exercising considerable independent judgment, Individual facilitates targeted student counseling and engagement efforts, supporting and tracking students in their exploration of legal careers and helping them no matter which path they choose to follow. Individual will also serve as the first point of contact for students, alumni and employers wanting to utilize the services of the Career Development Office (CDO) and to provide administrative support to the CDO staff, geared toward supporting student engagement and the goal of 100% employment.Within the School of Law, the CDO is responsible for all aspects of career development and recruitment programming for approximately 600 students and a substantial number of alumni/ae each year. With a Career Development Office that provides invaluable support and important career-planning resources, prior to arrival and after departure, UNC School of Law graduates can, and do, go anywhere with a Carolina Law education. The CDO staff supports students as they explore options in summer positions and careers in vast practice settings.Most prospective students are not exactly sure which area of law they will pursue - and that's to be expected. Upon enrollment, the staff of the Career Development Office are here to support students in their exploration of legal careers. The CDO offers, among other services, individual career counseling appointments, mock interviews, daily drop-in hours, and resume and cover letter reviews. The CDO serves as an information clearinghouse for job information as well as a counseling and training center for students' career exploration and employment-related skills. It offers a structured, multi-part Career Development Curriculum for first-year law students, as well as about 70 programs a year on a variety of practice areas and settings encompassing both traditional and nontraditional legal careers.Toward this end, it pursues a fourfold mission: to prepare outstanding lawyers and leaders for the bar, the bench, all public and private law settings, and public service; to make nationally and internationally significant legal and policy contributions through an ambitious agenda of research and scholarship; to instill lifelong ethical values, dedication to the cause of justice and a lasting commitment to pro bono and public service; and, to serve the legal profession, the people and institutions of North Carolina, the nation and the world.UNC School of Law is deeply committed to providing a welcoming community for students from all backgrounds.
