What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Oncology Surgeon position at unc?
The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time hybrid academic/community surgical oncologist to join our Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery. The Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery is among the 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 11 faculty members and 5 Advanced Practice Providers that provide a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality multidisciplinary care for our oncology patients. The Division is also actively involved in leading and contributing to our vast portfolio of clinical/translation research and educational missions, through our collaboration with the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Academic appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with the candidate's experience with a fixed term. Faculty members within the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three missions of the Department and School of Medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Clinical responsibilities will include participation in multidisciplinary care, tumor boards, and surgical support of oncology programs at an established and busy community-based UNC-affiliated medical facility. In regard to this hybrid clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of the UNC Healthcare system. In addition, the faculty member will have academic opportunities at the UNC Medical Center, with time allocation dependent on career interests and academic qualifications. At the UNC Medical Center, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Furthermore, Surgical Oncology faculty participate in outreach to our many community-based referral medical groups. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is critical, including but not limited to oncology clinical trials, tissue procurement, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Overall, the selected candidate must be professional, team-oriented, and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division.
