Job Description
The Directorwill lead critical fundraising capabilities for Uncommon Schools, including leading individual giving and the development and execution of campaigns for Uncommon's growth, working closely with the organization's senior leadership to secure philanthropy from individuals committed to our work. Manage a portfolio of ~$6M annually, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding new five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts to ensure that Uncommon has the resources it needs to grow and thrive.

The Director will be a strategic, adaptable leader with excellent relationship management and project management skills. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating a comprehensive strategy and implementation plan to lead capital campaigns for Uncommon's growth in Newark and Camden, NJ;
  • Fundraising and donor relationship management including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship;
  • Leading prospect management for Senior Director and members of Executive Team;
  • Leading Uncommon's event and stewardship strategies;
  • Creating and staffing a campaign committee and supporting the campaign's volunteer leadership;
  • Developing campaign marketing materials;
  • Creating internal and external reporting and campaign infrastructure;
  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned.


  • Qualifications
    • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in non-profit fundraising
    • A bachelor's degree
    • Experience cultivating, closing, and stewarding gifts at every level
    • Experience with a capital campaign
    • Strong strategic planning, project planning and implementation skills
    • Excellent relationship management skills
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Experience managing Boards or other volunteer leadership
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
    • Collaborative and team-oriented

    Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in New York is between $127,760 to $159,700 and generally, we expect that qualified candidates in this location will be made an offer between $127,760 and $143,700. The starting pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, certification, and location. Because we value staff staying in their roles over time, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
