Title of Position: Exceptional Children’s Program Occupational Course of Study (OCS) Job Coach
Reports To: OCS Teacher and School Administrators
Purpose: Will serve students who are enrolled on the OCS Program in a Sampson County School
Overview of Job Responsibilities:
Under close supervision, assist in the acquisition of job skills and job development, as well as monitoring on-the-job performance of students with disabilities. Assist the classroom teacher in planning, organizing and implementing the instructional program. Provide support for clerical, technical, and general classroom functions. Report to classroom teacher and building principal daily. Job coaches should monitor students on the job or in the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Assist the teacher with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, preparing necessary materials, and maintaining student confidentiality.
- Follows a daily/weekly schedule developed by the teacher and administrator and communicates any deviations to set schedule in writing to the teacher and/or administrator.
- Assist the teacher in ensuring a safe and healthful environment.
- Demonstrate clerical and technical skills necessary to assist in the implementation of the program.
- Work to communicate the needs of the school and the students.
- Assist students with the understanding of rules and regulations.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and neatness of the classroom.
- Assist the classroom teacher with community-based instruction within and outside the school building.
- Train and job coach the student to meet the employer standards and expectations as established.
- Work to resolve obstacles to student work performance, e.g., social interaction conflicts, transportation issues, and changes in job expectations.
- Conduct data collection (evaluations, hours, etc.) As students develop job skills, move to indirect monitoring while role modeling employee behaviors.
- Alerts the teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
- Transport students during regular school hours to and from work for community work hours.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups
- Participates in in-service training programs for professional growth.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
- Must hold an associate degree or have completed at least 48-semester hours.
- Must hold a bus license or obtain one during the first year of employment.
- Prior experience working with the Exceptional Children’s population is preferred.
Terms of Employment:
- 10 months; full time; full benefits
Evaluation:
- Performance of this employee will be evaluated by an administrator at the school level.
