We focus on offering a high quality, ambulatory care alternative to a hospital for surgical procedures. We have been in operation at this location since 1985 and perform over 8,000 surgeries per year. Specialty areas include ENT, GI, General Surgery, GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, Oral Surgery and Oculoplastics.
Anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Establishes and maintains asepsis during procedures in the procedure room. Reporting Relationship: Reports to Clinical Director/Administrator, Supervising RN.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Ensures asepsis of all supplies and instruments during set up of procedures.
- Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining aseptic environment.
- Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse.
- Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated.
- Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon.
- Transports all endoscopy equipment to appropriate cleaning areas.
- Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
- Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
- Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
- Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
- Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
- Attends in-services, conferences, and meetings as required.
- Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees. Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
- Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center.
- Acts in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center.
- Complies with Policies and Procedures, and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
Required Skills
GI TECH
Assists with technical aspects of endoscopy under the direction of the physician and/or Endoscopy RN. Maintains and cleans endoscopy equipment. Provides patient care within prevailing national and state standards of practice and the policies of the facility. Communicates appropriate information to other team members. Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing. It is their responsibility to formulate and execute the care for patients to ensure that the patient receives the highest quality of care, that their safety is ensured according to the Policies and Procedures, and to instigate and execute all other tasks as requested by the DON. They will exhibit clinical skills to provide appropriate patient care in the Procedure room/ Endoscopy room. Ideal candidate will have strong GI Lab experience in either inpatient or ASC setting. GI Tech must have expertise with all technical aspects of the Endoscopy suite (driving scopes, taking biopsies, performing snare polypectomies, EGD dilation, deploying resolution clips, etc.)
May have additional responsibilities as designated by the DON which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other perioperative departments, serving on committees, participating in QA/Performance Improvement audits and projects. Maintains aseptic environment during procedures
Required Experience
Required Skills:
• High school diploma
*Certified GI Tech or CST Certification preferred
• 2-3 years experience in outpatient endoscopy, surgery or related field preferable
• Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
• General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and endoscopy procedures.
• Demonstrates ability to work as a team member and to communicate directly and professionally. Is flexible, reliable, productive, patient-oriented, and self-motivated.
