Job Description
POSITION: Support Staff
REPORTS TO: Program Director
PURPOSE: Maintain day-to-day operations on-site within the shelter system. Ensure the safety and well-being of all of program participants. Conduct shelter intakes and enforces compliance with shelter policies and procedures. Document all activity which takes place within the shelter during their shift. Serve as a point of contact and monitor within the house.
Requirements:

- Prompt and Courteous phone manner.
- Knowledge of telephone, computer, and security procedures for the company.
Essential Job Functions:
- The Support Staff is responsible for the safety for all clients and children as well as daily shelter maintenance.
- Conducts client shelter intake and enforces client compliance with shelter policies and procedures.
- Documents all shelter activities, writes incident reports and staff memos.
- Briefs incoming staff member on shelter activity. Brings staff member up-to-date on daily client census.
- Begins shift by surveying shelter conditions to maintain safety, cleanliness and documenting issues.
- Conducts morning and evening room checks.
- Maintains shelter property safety during inclement weather.
- Answers shelter door, which remains closed and locked at all times.
- The 11pm – 7am shift activates the shelter security system each night, deactivating again each morning.
- Reports any security system problems and maintenance needs. Oversees client chore completion.
- Monitors client arrivals and departures, assuring each client signs in and out of the shelter indicating arrival and departure times.
- Documents all client absences and reports to DSS Emergency Services any weekend client absence.
- Monitors and documents all client, staff and visitor arrivals and departures.
- Requests and photocopies identification from all visitors. Maintains client confidentiality.
- Monitors weekday quiet time; encouraging educational activities and homework completion.
- Oversees meal preparation and dinner hour.
- Provides crisis intervention and mediation as needed.
- Arranges medical and other emergency services for clients in need.
- Informs Program Director when emergency services; fire, police, EMT are called to the shelter.
- Requests and documents police officer names and badge numbers.
- Conducts monthly fire drills and safety maintenance. Remains up-to-date on safety, emergency and evacuation plan procedures.
- Employee may be required to carry out other duties as assigned.
- Regularly reviews shelter policies and procedures. Attends staff meetings.
