Positions in this job family are related to determining premium rates. This function uses underwriting principles, financial and statistical modeling, and trend projections to lead and/or support the development of the organization's pricing and rate setting process. This function analyzes risks and selects proper categories and rates. The distinction between pricing and underwriting versus actuarial is underwriting is the sales side determining premiums.
Positions in this function are responsible for assessing and pricing the financial risk associated with group or individual prospective and renewing cases.

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
Ability to apply appropriate rating (e.g., manual; experience; or expense rates) consistent with set guidelines (e.g., state and federal mandates; internal guidelines) and assessed risk (e.g., medical conditions; demographic characteristics) to determine final pricing
Ability to create and/or analyze reports to understand performance and make recommendations on potential adjustments (e.g., pricing; benefit changes)
Ability to gather data/provide input to help determine or support overall potential pricing changes -Review applicable reports (e.g., large claims) to identify individual ongoing medical concerns and risks
Ability to ensure that appropriate documentation is in place (e.g., demographic information; claim information; required level of authority) to ensure appropriate approvals or review processes have been obtained
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to seek information from relevant stakeholders (e.g., sales representatives; clients) to understand broker and/or customer needs
Ability to negotiate with internal and external partners regarding price, contractual terms, and/or guarantees
Ability to communicate pricing recommendations, rationale, and impact (e.g., block of business; financial performance) to applicable stakeholder groups (e.g., health plan providers; sales team; brokers; consultants; management; customers)
Ability to work with finance and actuarial departments to project future revenues and claims

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
