Monday-Friday; Various shifts available.

PRN As Needed; Non-Benefitted

PRN: Monday-Friday-24 to 32 hours a week

 

This position is responsible for the comprehensive support of the classroom professional working with a class of eight to thirty children between the ages of six weeks and twelve years. This incumbent will provide safe, secure care, nurture and educational activities for enrolled Child Care children.

CHILD CARE AIDE SUPPORTS THE CLASSROOM TEACHING PROFESSIONAL TO PROVIDE PROGRAMMING FOR GUIDING DEVELOPMENT OF PROGRESSIVE LEVELS OF CHALLENGE WITHIN PRESCHOOL AND PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS THOUGH ADHERENCE TO EARLY CHILDHOOD STANDARDS.

 

·         Actively assists with enrollment or transfer of children into the homeroom producing positive results for children, families, and co-workers.

·         Communicates verbally and with written information any and all pertinent data needed to provide safe, secure nurture and education.

·         Supports the Lead and Assistant Teachers in development of age-appropriate daily activities and programs.

·         Generate and continues quality care and education during the absence of homeroom personnel.

·         Reads professional literature, attends workshops and classes and gains experience to expand skills and techniques for professional growth.

·         Actively guides and participates in all areas of care and education.

·         Provides curriculum and related activities offering age-appropriate growth opportunities for enrolled children.

·         Offers daily opportunities for fine motor coordination and developmental play.

·         Offers daily opportunities for music appreciation and interaction.

·         Offers daily opportunities for dramatic play.

·         Offers daily opportunities for use of creative art materials.

·         Assists with activities that bring outside resources to the Center.

·         Assists with field trips, planning and actual participation.

·         Actively assists with daily notes, parent board information, progress reports and newsletters.

·         Participates regularly in Center-wide activities. Participation will be active and promote the family opportunities to grow and nurture the child.

·         Provides at least one staff in-service to share techniques and skills with co-workers.

·         Institutes plans for activities and play that meet age-appropriate criteria.

CHILD CARE AIDE GUIDES AND NURTURES THE CHILDREN LEADING TO PROVISION OF CONSISTENT, SAFE CARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH DCFS, MMCI AND CENTER POLICIES

 

·         Develops an appropriate bond with children and their families to provide consistent care.

·         Maintains a nominal absentee/tardy rate so children and families can comfortably establish an interactive relationship that supports consistent care. Develops an approachable style of greeting and interacting with children, families and co-workers.

·         Provides positive emotional deposits for all.

·         Greets each individual, usually by name, with eye contact and sincere interest.

·         Attends all available staff meetings to receive information concerning safety policies.

·         Attends all available staff meetings to receive information concerning infection control policy.

·         Diligent in following Center policies regarding delivery and pick up of each child.

·         Actively seeks out appropriate techniques for providing safe, secure care. This is demonstrated by low incidents of injuries to children and co-workers in assigned area.

·         Respects center policies by keeping enrolled children outside of restricted areas such as the Center kitchen, staff lounge, staff storage room and Commons storage room.

·         Assists the homeroom Lead Teacher to establish an atmosphere of safe play and infection control.

·         Assists teacher in reviewing toys and equipment for breaks or damage.

·         Assists teacher in regular disinfection of toys.

·         Assists teacher in meeting the infection control challenges to each child's health.

·         Follows infection control guidelines for handwashing, food service, diapering/toileting of children and all other good health protocol.

·         Physically alert, responsive and interactive for all outdoor play.

·         Surveys the outdoor play area for troubleshooting of any dangerous situations.

·         Plans outdoor activities so the entire outdoor time is broken into parts where teacher is often interactive and not just an observer.

·         Physically moves regularly to areas where children are playing.

·         Establishes playground rules promoting safe play that can be creative, imaginative and energetic as well as quiet and focused, depending on the desires of the child.

·         Works as a team member by returning playground equipment to storage areas before leaving, alerting the office to items broken or in need of repair, immediately responding to an obvious safety issue and following scheduled times for play.

·         Joins in the maintenance of play areas required by seasons such as simple snow removal, sand through provision for the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of children enrolled.

·         Provides comfort, attention and guidance for infants and children through 11 years of age, treating each one with dignity and respect.

·         Assist by functioning competently in other positions within the Child Care Department as temporary assignments, including the following: Secretary/Receptionist, Dietary Aide, Child Care provider or Lead Teacher.

·         As a mandated reporter any suspect of child abuse will be reported.

CHILD CARE AIDE WORKS WITH ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM AS A COMPLIMENTARY MEMBER OF CHILD CARE FACULTY, SHARING RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES ESTABLISHED AS PROTOCOL.

 

·         Arrives promptly at classroom or care area ready to assist in provision of a comfortable, active play and learning experience for enrolled children.

·         Appears in place with hands washed, personal appearance in accordance with dress code and emotionally prepared to positively influence the upcoming experiences.

·         Focuses on the children enrolled and in attendance.

·         Spends a portion of each shift planning with homeroom Lead Teacher for future project and activities.

·         Seeks opportunities to implement programs and activities; actively seeks out tasks to be completed.

·         Physically performs tasks that will meet the needs of enrolled children in a cheerful manner.

·         Memorizes first and last names of each child.

·         Takes each break and lunch period according to schedule by leaving on time and returning on time.

·         Remains with the group to maintain appropriate ratio.

·         Contacts the office by intercom to relay communication to director, charge teachers or secretary and to teachers in other areas.

·         Provides pertinent information on enrolled children to break- staff, substitute personnel, co-teachers and supervisory personnel. Confidential information is shared only as another has a need to know

·         Assists team worker with all areas of care including handwashing, toileting, feeding, injury recovery, guidance, naptime, temporary sick care and general wellbeing.

·         Participates in team-building activities.

·         Demonstrates professionalism in all activities.

·         Provides appropriate share of energy toward teamwork.

·         Points out classroom and center accomplishments of others that have benefited customers.

·         Assists in planning and promoting in-service activities for all staff.

·         Assists in center-wide activities for children, parents, co-workers and employees.

·         Assists in promoting awareness of the quality care provided

CHILD CARE AIDE USES TIME, SUPPLIES AND OTHER RESOURCES PRODUCTIVELY TO PROMOTE RESPONSIVE AND COST-EFFECTIVE NURTURE AND EDUCATION FOR ENROLLED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.

·         Promotes respect among the faculty/staff and student body for the maintenance and upkeep of the Child Care Center and equipment.

·         Actively puts her/his own industry and effort toward the care of toys, equipment and learning materials of the Center.

·         Manages time well by producing teaching aides and learning materials during children's rest period.

·         Demonstrates productive abilities by assisting with classroom and care area tasks daily.

·         Assures cleanliness of tabletops, counters, toys, chairs, and equipment for assigned room.

·         Shares in Center-wide maintenance by active participation in staff committees.

·         Manages time by keeping focus on children and families served by Center.

·         Personal and family concerns are attended to on break time.

·         Completes work within assigned shift.

·         Overtime used only as requested by Charge Teacher or Director.

·         Prevents waste of supplies and linen.

·         Checks rooms for unused equipment/supplies and returns items to appropriate storage.

·         Accomplishes tasks in appropriate amount of time keeping in mind the age and needs of each child or family served.

·         Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize tasks as related to the Child Care program provided.

·         Assists others on staff in assignment completion.

·         Willingly responds to requests by accepting delegated duties from Lead Teachers, Charge Teachers and Director.

·         Demonstrates attention to Infection Control procedures by actively participating in appropriate handwashing, disinfecting of toys, and daily cleaning tasks.

·         Follows Center policy for request of to obtain repairs and maintenance of equipment.

·         Follows DCFS guidelines for care of children according to age and specific infection control measures.

·         Accepts responsibility for physical appearance of own homeroom as well as the Center and outdoor play areas as a whole.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

·         Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

·         Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

·         Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

·         Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.  Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

 

 

 

         High School graduate or GED equivalent

 

Experience:

 

 

 

 

 

·         1-3 years of experience in/with group care and nurture with children of ages 6 weeks through 12 years

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

Must obtain the following within 90 days of hire:

·         CPR

·         First Aid

·         Food Handler Training and Certificate

·         Computer Skills

o    Basic computer knowledge: Uses word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail application, and web browser. Comfortable within a Windows OS and learning new applications.

·         Fingerprinting and clearance by DCFS agencies.

·         3 Letters of Recommendation

·         Shall be at least 19 years of age.

·         Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

·         Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals.

·         Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes.
