What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diet Office Supervisor position at UnityPoint Health?
As a member of the nutritional services team, provides leadership and direction to the diet office. Assists with the leadership of the nutritional services department and provides nutrition services as needed within scope of practice. Fills the position of a dining host as a member of the diet office team. Maintains a professional environment consistent with Unity Point Health FOCUS values and culture.
Responsibilities:
- Meets the needs of the patient and family as needed by providing appropriate nutritional care within CDM scope of practice.
- Utilizes critical thinking skills and clinical judgment as necessary in providing food and nutrition services to patients.
- Assists Regional Manager Clinical Nutrition with writing Diet Office Department policies and procedures.
- Answers questions and concerns patients have related to menus and meal orders within the scope of CDM practice.

- Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance CDM knowledge.
- Maintains Certified Dietary Manager Credential by obtaining Continuing Education Units.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors and accidents.
- Reports all potential or actual safety concerns immediately to the appropriate people.
- Reviews diet plans with patients and Dining Hosts to ensure the patient’s safety as it relates to food choices.

- Completes all opening activates in the Diet Office.
- Holds Dining Hosts accountable for their involvement in the patient plan of care.
- Schedules Dining Hosts and rearranges work assignments as census changes.
- Assists with development and implementation of employee related policies and procedures.
- Assists in creating workflows to continually improve the Dining Host processes.
- Facilitates team member huddles as needed to review pertinent information.
- Assists in development and education of the Dining Hosts related to menus and patient diets.
- Fills in as a Dining Host as needed.

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications:
Education: Must be a Certified Dietary Manager. High School graduate or GED equivalent
Experience: Must have at least one year of supervisory experience with scheduling patient interaction, problem solving, and sound working knowledge of diet compliance.
License(s)/Certification(s): Food Handler’s certification within 1 month of hire. Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification
