Under the supervision of an RN provides direct patient care. Performs procedures for patients and provides technical services and support. Responsibilities
- Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.
- Receives patient into treatment/exam area and performs patient data collection and documents on flow sheets.
- Monitors and documents status of vascular accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter (“CVC”) techniques in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations.
- Documents patient observations and seeks guidance when levels are out of normal range for hospitalized dialysis patients.
- Reports patient parameters to registered nurse as needed.
- Monitors and documents on UnityPoint approved flow sheet the patient vital signs applicable to critically ill patients, administers fluid therapy or other appropriate treatments as directed, documents activities appropriately per UnityPoint policy and / or state regulations
- Obtains adequate blood specimens as defined in work area.
- Labels all specimens in accordance with standards.
- Set ups and monitors dialysis machines and reverses osmosis (“RO”) water system for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms and makes appropriate adjustments before, during and after the dialysis treatment, performs safety checks as directed by the registered nurse prior to, during and following dialysis treatment.
- Prime dialyzers, obtains dialysate, and monitor the delivery system during treatments using all alarm systems, settings, and appropriate tests.
- Assist in monitoring supply inventory and equipment needs.
- Reviews dialysis prescription, notes general physical and mental condition of patient through observation and interview, documents observations.
- Initiates dialysis via approved accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter (“CVC”) techniques in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations.
- Dismantles, cleans, and disinfects dialysis machines and equipment in accordance to UnityPoint procedures; perform appropriate end of therapy terminal cleaning and disinfection of the dialysis equipment.
- Notifies Biomedical Technician of any equipment malfunctions.
- Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.

Qualifications

Education:
| High School Graduate or GED equivalent.

| 6 months dialysis experience. | . |
License(s)/Certification(s):
| Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
Dialysis Technician certification within 18 months of hire.
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
