The University at Buffalo’s University Honors College within the department of Undergraduate Education seeks to hire an energetic and highly professional Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Student Success. This position provides a broad range of administrative and advising support functions. This position reports to the Administrative Director.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities
- Provides academic advisement for new and current Honors Scholars
- Assists with development, implementation, and communication of Honors College curricular components.
- Oversees key student success and retention initiatives including monitoring student academic progress and related outreach; coordinating early alert and intervention strategies for at-risk students; facilitating programs and workshops focusing on student engagement, support, and success.
- Advises Honors College leadership on strategies to increase student success and retention.
- Special assignments as determined by Honors College Director and Administrative Director.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with at least two (2) years of professional work experience and competencies in the following areas:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including verbal, written, and active listening with ability to collaborate as part of a dynamic team.
- Possess high attention to detail and display accuracy in all areas of responsibility.
- Possess a strong sense of accountability and be self-motivated. Must be able to work independently with minimal direction and exhibit good judgment.
- Able to prioritize workload and complete multiple projects simultaneously within expected deadlines.
- Possess and display a high-level of customer service to all constituents.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment exhibiting understanding, appreciation, and respect for all individuals, with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, with knowledge of Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration or Counseling is preferred
- Prior experience with academic advising (or closely related) experience in a college or university setting is preferred
- Experience working with the needs of high achieving students is highly desirable.
