What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Social Worker position at University Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assesses adult and pediatric pre-transplant and post-transplant patients’ needs and assists with personal, financial, and environmental difficulties which prevent the patient from accessing medical care/transplant regimen. Counsels and assists patients and their families in receiving maximum benefits from third party payers for medical care. Participates in the evaluation process of transplant candidacy and living donor candidacy by completing psychosocial assessment and making recommendations for listing in transplant team conferences. Provides social services to all transplant patients both in hospital setting and in outpatient transplant clinic. Travels to out of town satellite clinics to perform psychosocial assessments as part of transplant evaluation and living donor evaluation. Advocates for transplant patients to assist them in obtaining needed services, funding, and medications; organizes family conferences, provides supportive counseling, facilitates transplant support group, participates in pre-op transplant class and serves as a member of multi-disciplinary health team.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work required. One year of post-Masters degree experience in a health care setting is preferred.
LICENSURE
Current state licensure from the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners is required.
