Grants & Contracts Officer

The University of Alabama at Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Grants & Contracts Officer for UAB’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). This position is an integral member of the Office Sponsored Programs team that exemplifies the UAB mission, vision, and values and acts by UAB policies and procedures. Must work well with others under tight deadlines and pressure, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and help to facilitate change. The position is part of a group of professionals dedicated to collaborative approaches, relationship-building, and positive outcomes.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews submissions, awards, and other agreements for compliance and provides advice and assistance with sponsor regulations, university policies, state, and federal regulations, and laws as they relate to proposals, awards, and other agreements and forms, including but not limited to, master, confidentiality agreements and data use agreements, pass-through awards, Veterans Administration (VA) Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) forms and Memorandums of Understanding (MOU)
  • Identifies and reports potential problems, actions, and policy issues that require clarification or corrective action; follows up on award and modification negotiations when responses have not been forthcoming from faculty or sponsors
  • Reviews processes for efficiency and assists in process improvements.
  • Trains and mentors internal and external customers
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Hourly Range: $57,940-$94,150


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Science, or related field and five (5) years of related experience required
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in negotiating contracts
  • Contractual language and redlining experience
  • Experience with processing and redlining Data Use Agreements (DUAs)

The ideal candidate will have experience with federal grant administration, and research contracts including sub-recipient agreements; working knowledge of IRAP system, ASSIST, Workspace, Fastlane, Grants.gov, Research.gov, eRA Commons, and experience working in research portal environment are a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve and recognize issues are necessary for success in this position. Strong organizational, and analytical skills and a customer service attitude are imperative. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required.
