Position Summary:
Would you like to be a part of a top-notch claims team with a mission and a heart? Here at UA Risk Services, we are in the business of education, not insurance.
We assist the University in achieving its primary goals of education, research, and service by providing in-house claim resolution services under our self-insured program. When unforeseen things happen, it’s our job to help University staff, faculty, and students through the recovery process.
To thrive in this role, you must be able to apply your insurance claims know-how to the unique environment of higher education. You must be proficient in claims adjusting with solid emphasis on Alaska workers’ compensation and customer service. The Risk Services claim unit is responsible for all liability, workers’ compensation, auto, aviation, cyber, marine and property claims throughout the UA system.
You'll handle caseload of claims representing the University and its employees. Claims handling includes investigation and determination of coverage based on knowledge of legal principles, contract law, specific case law and other applicable state and federal law including ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, and OSHA. Liability claims require negotiation and settlement with adverse parties. Workers' compensation claims include calculation and payment of wage loss, disability, and medical benefits in conformance with statutory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three years progressively responsible relevant experience (i.e. claims handling, risk management or insurance industry experience), or an equivalent combination of training or experience.
Alaska Adjuster license is a requirement upon hire. Licensure with the State of Alaska indicates a level of competency has been attained which has been certified by passing a required State of Alaska exam. Licensure requires 24 hours of continuing education every two years. Professional licensure or certification (AIC, AINS, ARM) is preferred.
