WRITING CENTER SERVICES COORDINATOR
Position Highlights
The Writing Center Services Coordinator provides administrative and program oversight for the writing tutoring services being provided at THINK TANK. The services include both free and fee-based tutoring provided to UA students in both centralized and satellite locations. These services are integral to the University's overall retention efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and supervision to the writing tutoring staff at the Writing Center; establish work priorities.

Set program policy and procedures in conjunction with the Assistant Director.

Identify needs, develop innovative support services, and improve effectiveness of existing services.

Provide leadership in developing and implementing an exemplary and comprehensive content based tutoring program to serve all UA students.

Maintain and continue to improve tutor training program for writing tutors.

Contribute to continued recertification of International Tutor Program Certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (ITTPC).

In collaboration with the Assistant Director, determine structure and staffing of Writing Center services within budgetary constraints.

Supervise Graduate Assistant positions.

Oversee daily operations of all WC locations.

Monitor program effectiveness and quality of the Writing Center services.

Serve as a technical and methods expert for tutors’ special needs.

Provide professional development support to colleagues and staff within the Writing Center.

Build and maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, and staff in facilitation of program objectives.

Collaborate with retention programs (New Start, Bear Down Bridge program, Residence Life, etc.) across campus to provide academic support for programming.

Contribute to the center’s fiscal planning and in writing grants and proposals.

Participate in research goals of department through program development, implementation, evaluation, and modification.

Conduct special program evaluation activities, as outlined by Assistant Director.

Design and implement program modifications based upon evaluation of outcomes, student needs, and staff feedback.

Provide problem solving assistance, interpret departmental policy and procedures pertaining to writing tutoring.

Make recommendations concerning improvement of programs and services.

Develop and facilitate workshops or seminars. Prepare presentations for students or other professionals as requested.

Participate in professional organizations to promote personal professional growth and development.

Support the THINK TANK through participation in a variety of departmental activities, assignments, and committees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of writing tutoring principles and practices.

Knowledge of tutoring program coordination practices and strategies.

Knowledge of leadership, management, and supervision principles and practices.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Excellent oral, written, and facilitation skills.

Ability to support a diverse student population.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and high degree of openness to new approaches and new ideas.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or other appropriate field and three years of directly related administrative/coordination experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Education, or other appropriate field.
- Five years of experience in student academic support programming.
- Experience with FERPA and ethical principles in working with tutors and students.
- Experience with University of Arizona student worker hiring procedures and policies.
- Tutor program coordination experience.
