Full-time Research Assistant Position
Psychology Department, University of California, Davis
Dr. Camelia Hostinar in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Davis seeks to fill a full-time research coordinator position at the Junior Specialist level beginning July 1, 2023. The position will have duration of 1 year. The successful candidate will work on research projects investigating stress psychobiology.
The research assistant will have the opportunity to acquire and train in several important research and intellectual skills using a variety of psychological tools, as well as perform lab management duties.
Responsibilities/Opportunities
Research - 80%
* Recruiting and scheduling research participants by phone.
* Assisting with data collection with child participants and their parents (e.g., preparing paper-and-pencil questionnaires, collecting saliva samples and ECG data; taking height, weight, waist, and hip measurements; processing plasma samples from whole blood collected by the phlebotomist). The position involves direct interaction with children and families.
* Leading community outreach efforts to promote the recruitment of participants.
* Maintaining human subject protocols and consent forms and communicating with the IRB.
* Contributing to peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in the form of relevant literature review, data analysis, and scientific write-up. There will be opportunities to publish abstracts and present scientific results at local and national conferences.
University/Public Service - 20%
* Providing training and mentoring to undergraduate research assistants and volunteers.
* Communicating with various laboratory supply companies, purchasing laboratory supplies, and maintaining a clean, well-organized laboratory environment.
* Maintaining laboratory equipment (e.g., freezer, eyewash station, complete blood count machine).

Bachelors degree in the arts or sciences or a health-related field.
Prior experience conducting psychological research with children and adolescents.
Previous experience with data analysis and stress research.
Excellent interpersonal skills and good writing skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Excel & Word, Google Calendar, Google Voicemail).
Exposure to some analytical software including SPSS and R.
Experience with UC Davis Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols.
Ability to run occasional sessions on a weekend or evening (4-7 pm) if some participants need it
