Department Purpose
The Health Professions Advising Office in the College of Biological Sciences serves the needs of all UC Davis students, regardless of major or college affiliation, who seek health careers including, but not limited to, medicine, nursing, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, clinical lab sciences, genetic counseling, veterinary medicine, and public health. HPA provides support in topics from choosing prerequisite courses to supporting current applicants to health professional schools.
Job Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for providing health professions advising to university undergraduate students. Co-coordinate HPA’s quarterly programming, assist with the annual Pre-Health Conference. Create and manage the publishing/print process for all marketing and informational handouts for office use (print and digital). Maintain two websites (HPA and Pre-Health Conference), update multiple social media platforms daily.
POSITION INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work at a desk for extended periods of time.
- Carry materials including a laptop weighing up to 25 lbs, to events across campus. A handcart is available.

- Work occasional flexible schedule and overtime during evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Experience using software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs and forms, email and other computer programs to produce correspondence, forms, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Skills in employing fundamental counseling techniques to advise students and help them resolve academic, social, and emotional problems, and to make appropriate and sensitive referrals.
- Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to recognize problems and generate alternatives or offer solutions based on knowledge of procedures and existing guidelines.
- Skills to work autonomously and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Time management and organizational skills, including skills to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines to manage multiple tasks with concurrent and conflicting priorities while maintaining a high quality of work product.
- Writing skills to compose and edit correspondence, reports, reviews, and informational materials to correspond with applicants, faculty, students, student services offices and off-campus agencies and organizations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- 2 years of experience advising PreHealth students.
- Experience applying holistic advising and guidance techniques in an academic environment at the university/college level.
- Experience with advising tools and technology, including ability to develop expertise in using software and information management systems.
- Experience working independently evaluating, planning, and coordinating both small- and large-scale events.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Experience working within an Admissions office at a professional health school.

Salary : $21 - $40
