Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Programs oversees the curricular advising program and student support operations. Through the work of three staff they supervise, the Assistant Director is responsible for social programming, academic activities, academic remediation and support programs, career advising, and supporting students in the residency application process. The Assistant Director collaborates with faculty and school leadership to integrate student services and the curriculum. The Assistant Director develops, prioritizes, and implements strategies that improve program and curricular quality, processes, and compliance.

Department Description
The Admissions and Student Experience Team (AsSET) is responsible for attracting, selecting, matriculating, and supporting every medical student on the path to successful development into the 21st Century UCSF Physician. This team works to align UCSF's learning environments with our values and promote every student's professional identity formation through building community and cultivating success for all.
As a part of AsSET, the Student Experience Team (SET) ensures that systems are in place:
- To cultivate a sense of belonging and being known for every student through mentoring, advising, community-building programs and organizational support for all students, whole classes, and subpopulations across classes.
- To provide enhanced support services for student wellbeing, UIM students, first generation students, students from socioeconomically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
- To provide the resources, structures, and support necessary for students to transform into the 21st Century UCSF Physician.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training.
- 5 years experience in student affairs, medical education, higher education, or related field.
- 3 years leading or supervising a team. Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on professional development. Motivates and inspires staff to improve programs and services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student services and academic support, both through direct services and programs. Understanding of current trends in student affairs, medical education or higher education.
- Prior experience interpreting, implementing, and/or developing higher education policies and processes, or related policies. Current knowledge of medical education or higher education federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
- Effective communication skills with peers, learners, faculty, and other education program coordinators / managers.
- Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
- Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical health profession / education concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
- In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.
- Proven ability to recruit staff and integrate learners which requires high-level planning and coordination skills, the ability to think strategically and communicate complex information to multiple stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in student affairs, education, or related area preferred
