The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Florida is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral associate to contribute to ongoing NIH funded studies investigating the molecular basis for peripheral vascular disease under the mentorship of Dr. Scott Berceli. The Berceli lab conducts research on multiple projects aimed at the elucidating mechanisms of vein graft failure and fistula maturation with specific interest in single cell genomics. The ideal candidate would have experience in the field of Vascular Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology or a strong background in Genomics or Engineering.

Postdoctoral associates in the Berceli lab receive structured and extensive mentoring by the PI and collaborating investigators in the Department of Surgery and the UF Myology Institute. Scholars are highly encouraged to initiate new projects and collaborations and will receive regular training in grant and manuscript writing. Support will be provided to attend scientific conferences to present work and provide networking opportunities. Animal and/or patient contact is required as needed.

UF houses several core facilities which provide additional scientific and mentoring opportunities including the Myology Institute (http://myology.institute.ufl.edu) and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (https://www.ctsi.ufl.edu). Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Cell culture and various molecular biology assays
  • Development of new methods required for completion of the research projects
  • Data collection, organization, analysis, and presentation
  • Abstract and manuscript preparation
  • Research proposal submission
  • Supervise undergraduate and technical staff as needed to assist with experiments

Individuals will be required to do occasional light lifting as required for laboratory restocking, maintenance, etc.



Expected Salary:

NIH Stipend based on education and experience



Minimum Requirements:

Required: Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one first-authored publication of significance.
  • Possess strong knowledge of molecular biology
  • Work well as part of collaborative research group with a strong work ethic and strong organization skills
  • Expertise in single cell RNA sequencing, genomics, R programming, and vascular biology.

  • Experience in phenotyping immune cells, single cell RNA sequencing, and advanced statistics are preferred, but not required.
