Other Conditions: Recruitment is for two (2) full-time positions. To begin August 2022, pending position clearance, available funds, and program needs. Continuation subject to funding and program needs. Duties require work at Windward Community College campus and at various other locations   (subject to change) on a regular basis. Assignments may include evening and weekend hours.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides proactive advising and academic guidance to individual students enrolled in the Windward Community College Pu‘uhonua program, which serves incarcerated adults and incarcerated or at-risk youth.
  2. Serves as liaison with faculty and staff and assists in the coordination and implementation of college centers at Women’s Community Correction Center, Olomana School, Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility, and Halawa Correctional Facility.
  3. Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Title III programming to create and implement the activities of the program. Leads activities, workshops, and assessments, as appropriate and needed.
  4. Teaches a stand-alone student success class or team teach as a member of a Learning Cohort at WCCC, OS, HYCF, HCF locations on-site, in-person, or via correspondence.
  5. Support Second Chance Pell implementation at various teaching locations.  Deliver and/or coordinate student support services to students on-site to promote continued college enrollment.
  6. Monitor and report enrollment and progress of students, develop intervention strategies to facilitate enrollment and success.
  7. Develop and generate longitudinal and statistical data and reports related to the early college program including annual reports.
  8. Perform other related duties including, but not limited to: supervising peer mentors/tutors, serving on institutional and system-wide committees, participating in community service, and pursuing professional development.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance, Educational Administration, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications, or related fields; or 
  • Bachelors in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications or related field, and three years related work experience.  Related fields include:  Education (to include all degrees in this field), Family Resources, Human Development, Psychology (to include all degrees in this field), Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, and Student Services Personnel.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Academic advising/counseling experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with at promise, multi-cultural and Native Hawaiian populations.
  3. Experience working with incarcerated populations.
  4. Program coordination experience.
  5. Community college level teaching experience.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work with other faculty in a team environment to design and implement student-centered success strategies.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish successful rapport with students, staff, faculty, and community groups.
  8. Must be able to function autonomously as well as a member of the student services team.
  9. Student employee supervision.
  10. Experience in data collection, database maintenance, and reporting.
  11. Able to work a variable schedule, and commute to various off-campus locations.
