Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Custodial Services, this position plans and organizes the work of a cleaning staff of 10-20 employees to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained buildings for students, faculty, staff, and guests of Idaho's flagship University. Responsibilities include providing daily leadership to staff; team building; training and evaluating performance of your staff; organizing custodial event support; conduct cleaning audits of buildings; securing assigned buildings; striving for customer satisfaction; responding to emergencies; responding to customer requests around campus, snow/ice removal; reporting unsafe situations and criminal activity; reporting needed facility repairs; demonstrating accountability; contributing to the team effort of Custodial Services, Facilities, and the University. This position will be required to work some weekends for event support.
This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with the methods, materials and equipment used in heavy-duty custodial work; custodial safety practices; cleaning agents and related products and their possible reactions.
- Experience with supervisory practices; sanitation and infection control; and training methods used in custodial work.
- Experience using small hand tools; operating and maintaining industrial- type cleaning equipment; and preparing records and reports, using email and similar tasks on a computer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year experience training custodial and/or maintenance staff.
- At least three years experience related to custodial cleaning.
- Education which has provided skills in math, reading and analytical problem solving.
- Skill communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated supervisory ability including skills in organization, time management, motivation, teamwork, and training techniques.
- Basic computer knowledge of email, Word, Excel,
- Ability to respond to emergency situations on a short notice.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand, bend, and walk for 8 hours a day.
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 40 lbs.
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operators license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.
- Due to the duties of this position, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
