Position Summary:
The research aide performs pre-established research procedures under general supervision. When applicable, they are responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining research space and equipment, and assisting with receipt and inspection of raw materials along with ordering and stocking of materials and equipment.
Duties may include:
Operating electronic and scientific equipment
- Collecting laboratory or field data while following existing protocols
- Preparing materials for testing
- Performing specialized or routine standardized tests
- Operating, maintaining, calibrating, and sterilizing laboratory/field equipment
- Cleaning glassware and work areas
- Reading, recording, and filing reports and correspondence
- Entering data and maintaining specimen logs, test results, and supplies used
- Assuring proper labeling and paperwork for the receipt and shipping of specimens
- Distributing, maintaining, and ordering research supplies
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

High School Degree or equivalent.
- Collecting and recording data following pre-established procedures or protocols.
- Using a computer to organize data for analysis.
- Accomplishing goals or completion of projects in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, or Soil Science or similar area.
- Hands-on research experience through coursework, employment, internships, fellowships or similar educational opportunity.
- At least five years experience in managing field crops.
- Experience in operating farm equipment and knowledge of basic crop production practices.
- Experience with conducting field studies in fertilizer and water use for improved crop yield and quality.
- Ability to give full attention to tasks at hand.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a group.
- Experience with agricultural research methods and techniques.
- Experience at a University research & extension center.
- Experience with and understanding of Idaho and Northwest US cropping systems.
- Experience with soil-plant-water-gas sampling, preparation, and analytical analyses using various instrumentation.
- Experience with precision agriculture tools such as sensor-based technologies, crop sensors, irrigated crop production systems is highly preferred.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outside for long periods of time under inclement weather conditions.
