What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director - IT Infrastructure Services position at University of Iowa Center for Advancement?
Assists the CIO in developing a long-term strategy for enterprise-wide infrastructure technologies required to support the current and emerging business capability needs of the organization. Responsible for understanding emerging technologies and keeping architecture current and maintainable. Provides oversight and guidance to the team responsible for implementing and maintaining infrastructure and end-user systems as well as help desk operations. The primary focus areas will be on UICA’s networking communications, security, and database technologies. Also responsible for asset lifecycle management.
*Position allows for significant telecommuting/work from home (up to 5 days per week depending upon business need and leader approval) after the first 90 days onsite. Office space will be provided in Iowa City, IA.*
- Creates a strategic vison for the infrastructure and help desk teams based on the strategic direction of the organization and goals of the department as well as new technologies on the horizon
- Manages all networking, server, communications, and database systems and ensures reliability and SLAs
- Maintains strict access controls into and out of network to minimize exposure to external attacks; designs secure remote access leveraging best practices and solutions as needed; advances the organization’s security posture by continually developing and improving internal vulnerability management, penetration testing, configuration management programs, and security policies
- Manages all aspects of the help desk operations including call management, issue management, problem management, change management, asset procurement and deployment, and customer satisfaction
- Creates automated systems to monitor network health and alerts network personnel when an issue occurs with network resources (including storage, email services, file servers, application servers, communications, etc.)
- Ensures all services, servers and the network will be available or recoverable in the event of a disaster based on the SLAs establish by the UICA and meeting business recover needs
- Creates policies, standards and processes for networking and end-user equipment.
- Creates and maintains infrastructure operation manual; ensures that standards, guidelines and procedures are in place and followed by infrastructure team
- Manages all aspects of the employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through separation; empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and prioritizes trust and transparent communication as the basis for a productive relationship; supports employees in developing meaningful goals aligned with those of the unit and UICA and in achieving/surpassing those goals; inspires performance through clear expectations and ongoing feedback; supports employees struggling to meet expectations for productivity, quality, and goal attainment; identifies and anticipates competency gaps within individuals and the unit as a whole; motivates, develops, coaches, and rewards employees for growth in competencies over time, leading to new opportunities for subject matter expertise or leadership; partners with Talent Management to achieve optimum results for employees, self, unit, and UICA; creates a work environment that is consistent with UICA mission/vision and that emphasizes our organizational culture and values
- Plans and oversees the overall operational, reporting, budgetary, and financial responsibilities of assigned UICA unit; develops and maintains work systems, procedures, and productivity standards that advance the mission and goals of the UICA unit and enable optimum performance of the people and other resources within it; allocates resources to effectively accomplish the work of the UICA unit; monitors, evaluates, and aims to improve effectiveness of unit operations; makes business decisions that are consistent with UICA mission/vision and our organizational culture and values
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in information systems or related field and 5 years of relevant experience required, including management of technical teams.
