What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietitian position at University of Iowa Health Care Health System?

Position Summary:

The Dietitian/Senior Behavioral Health Consultant develops, implements, and evaluates nutrition education programs and activities with a primary focus on health promotion and prevention of nutritional problems, and provides individual nutrition counseling. Responsibilities include training, consultation, academic supervision, and campus-community collaboration.

Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

  • Assesses nutrition education and counseling/intervention based on identified needs.

  • Develops program objectives, program outlines, evaluation tools and documents outcomes regarding program effectiveness and behavior change related to nutrition.

  • Provides instructions and explanations in terms appropriate for age groups and cultures.

  • Works respectfully and effectively with patients of varied age groups and cultures.

  • Provides 1:1 consultations in the areas of nutritional status based on standard and therapeutic nutrition principles.

  • Assists with consultations on college health topics.

  • Ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

  • Assists with supervision of student employees, interns, and practicum students.

  • Analyzes data, prepares reports, and provides information to stakeholders.

  • Increases current knowledge of college health issues by attending seminars, reading professional journals, and participating in coursework.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

  • Licensure by the State of Iowa.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the area of medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education, including experience with eating disorder intervention, Health at Every Size and intuitive eating principles.

  • Extensive knowledge and skills to utilize various methods to deliver learning solutions for desired training outcomes (e.g. public speaking, group workshops, etc.)

  • Extensive knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of young adult growth and development.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use office support tools available on the desktop (e.g., Microsoft Office; e-mail, presentation software, and electronic medical record).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics.

  • Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor.

  • Certified Eating Disorder Specialist or willingness to work toward Certified Eating Disorder Specialist.

  • Professional experience working in Higher Education involving work with college-age students.

  • Knowledge of assessment methods and activities; ability to assess research and instructional programs and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies.
