Job Description Summary:
We are seeking an experienced researcher for the Biomarker Discovery Lab (BDL) that
is a part of the KU Cancer Center and the Kansas Institute for Precision Medicine
COBRE. This person must communicate and work well within a collaborative team as
the person will interact with basic and clinical scientists to support translational research
studies. This person will help develop assays needed for the various correlative studies
evaluating DNA, RNA, protein, and exosomes that are supported by the BDL. This
person will generate and review data, troubleshoot and optimize assays, help write
grants and manuscripts, help prepare study budgets, and present results to lab
members.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications
A PhD in biological sciences or a related field is required. Essential knowledge in current molecular biology techniques including experience working with DNA, RNA and protein, cell culture, and other molecular biological techniques. Strong work ethics, effective communication skills, and ability to work under supervision of the lab Director and with other lab members.
Preferred Qualifications
A recent PhD graduate with hands-on experience in circulating protein-based and nucleic acid-based biomarker development and hands-on experience with next generation sequencing for DNA or RNA.
Job Duties
Develop, validate, and run assays to support translational research on clinical trials and other basic science research.
Prepare standard operating procedures for novel assays developed in the lab.
Disseminate knowledge and train other lab members of these novel assays that are of general interest.
Understand the basic principles of instrumentation and be able to recognize problems with the assays when they arise. Take appropriate corrective action(s) in order to accurately collect data, interpret results and perform additional testing when necessary.
Review all data with the lab Director/supervisor prior to releasing results to confirm that the data are complete and fulfill the study being supported by the BDL.
Work within a team with other members of the BDL and correspond collegiality with
other researchers and clinicians at the University and outside of the University.
Assist the lab PI and lab Director/supervisor with writing manuscripts, grants, and preparing study budgets.
Participate and present data in conference calls with study collaborators, and participate in weekly lab meetings and monthly journal clubs.
Assist with overall maintenance of lab in a collegial setting.
Mentor and help train graduate students and other junior lab members.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
