Ability to lift 50 lbs. Able to work in hot, wet areas and wear personal protective clothing. Rotational weekend work required.

Job Summary
Supervises daily cage wash or animal husbandry activities ensuring 100% adequate and appropriate coverage for all operations.. Assists Facility Manager in interviewing process, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc.
Reviews and recommends changes to policy and procedures to ensure that DLAR and investigators staff adhere to all UK, local, state, and/or Federal rules and regulations and that all actions are completed by strictly and consistently following applicable DLAR SOPs including safety procedures and guidelines.
Ensures accurate and timely creation and maintenance of all associated documents and records regarding training, environmental parameters, animal health monitoring, equipment maintenance, quality control, etc. Oversees and manages procurement and proper storage of husbandry supplies. Provides, on a rotational basis, after-hour coverage for husbandry related issues.

Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Animal Sciences, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Zoology, etc. or it’s equivalent) plus a minimum of 10 years animal husbandry or laboratory animal husbandry preferred.
Animal related experience directly related to the care, use, handling and treatment of animals in a paid position (i.e, work in pet stores, veterinary clinics, farm or ranch) preferred.
AALAS certified LATg or CMAR preferred.
Driver’s license preferred.
