Position Title: Academic and Manuscript Support Coordinator

Department : 2050|Dean of Graduate School

Responsibilities

The Academic and Manuscript Support Coordinator will play a critical role in enhancing graduate student success with a primary focus on providing meaningful academic support with expertise in communication, project management, and writing coaching. The coordinator will be directly responsible for overseeing manuscript compliance and coordination of programming with special attention to the needs of ABD doctoral candidates. This role is integral to maintaining the highest standards of academic and research integrity, and will work closely with graduate program leadership, the University Committee for Graduate Student Success and Retention, and other relevant campus units to enhance graduate student persistence and degree completion.

Key Responsibilities

Manuscript Compliance

  • Coordinate and perform graduation clearance review and final approval of thesis, dissertation, and synthesis project manuscripts to ensure compliance with Graduate School standards.

Academic, Research, and Manuscript Support

  • Develop virtual and in-person programming as well as resources/tools to enhance writing and research communication skills, advance project management competencies, and ensure research integrity.
  • Develop programming and resources tailored to the needs of special populations (e.g., ESL and STEM graduate students) and that highlight distinct topics that may be nuanced by disciplinary area (e.g., embargoes, copyright compliance, intellectual property, AI in academic work).
  • Partner to develop added support and programming around Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Radiation Safety Committee, and Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) policies.
  • Utilize and build upon platforms like the NCFDD Dissertation Success Curriculum and LinkedIn Learning to expand impact of support provided to manuscript writers.
  • Stay abreast of current trends in graduate and professional education and tailor support services accordingly.

Individualized Support

  • Collaborate to provide both individualized writing consultations and group-based manuscript support to meet the diverse needs of graduate students, with a particular attention to ABD doctoral students.
  • Introduce and implement best practices in supporting thesis/dissertation writing, research projects. and routine writing.

Serve as an active provider of student academic and manuscript support services.

Assessment and Data Analysis

  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness of academic and manuscript support needs and services.
  • Use data-driven insights to continuously improve programming and support services.

Collaboration, Outreach, and Supervision

  • Engage with graduate programs, graduate student organizations, and graduate students to understand their needs and facilitate relevant support and programming.
  • Foster partnerships with graduate programs, faculty, Graduate School staff, and other campus units to enhance the integration of academic and manuscript support across all disciplines and to scale successful curricular and co-curricular initiatives.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of graduate assistants to support all aspects of work undertaken by this position.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., English, Writing Studies, Education)
  • Experience in a higher education setting, with a preference for experience in writing instruction, academic support, and/or professional development for graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree, PhD preferred.

  • Proficiency in active learning principles and techniques to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Ability to design and implement co-curricular programming that complement disciplinary studies and support academic and professional development.
  • Familiarity with compliance and integrity issues related to research, including IRB, IACUC, IBC, Radiation Safety, and FCOI policies.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and project management to support students in navigating academic and research challenges.
  • Ability to provide both virtual and in-person support to accommodate diverse student needs and schedules.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology and educational tools for online and blended learning environments.
