Position Title: Dean of Students: Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership

Responsibilities:
The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership is one of several departments that report to the Dean for Students. The Student Engagement and Leadership staff serve, educate, and empower students through several different initiatives, organizations, and resources including, but not limited to: Student Organizations, Leadership Programs, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Leadership Development, University Program Council, Homecoming, campus traditions, and several campus wide programs. Our department staff collaborate on a consistent basis with other areas of university life such as Orientation, First Year Experience, Family Weekend, Athletics, Residential Life, Alumni Association, and more. Through these programs, students learn the skills necessary to understand themselves, navigate group dynamics, and serve their organizations, professions, and communities. We are proud to offer an engaged student experience that provides life and career readiness skills needed for success beyond graduation.
The Assistant Director is one of four professional staff members who are responsible for providing student engagement, learning and development within the fraternity and sorority life community and the University Program Council at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Opportunities may also be available to work with leadership development programs and other student engagement initiatives. The professional in this position will benefit from a wealth of experience in more than one of the traditional student activity areas, providing unique preparation for a future career in leading a comprehensive student engagement area.
This position will work with other Assistant Directors in the overall success of the whole fraternity and sorority community including developing a strategic plan and vision for future growth. The team will be responsible for the expansion, development, and administration of a strong fraternity and sorority community by working closely with chapters, advisors, national representatives, and four governing councils. Using a successful chapter and council coaching model, the Assistant Directors will advise approximately 8 chapters and 1-2 governing councils each (24 total chapters and 4 total governing councils).
The Assistant Director will also work with the University Program Council (UPC), a student led programming board and the premier programming organization at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This comprehensive program serves the educational, social, cultural, and recreational interests of university students. In addition to producing programs, experience in UPC provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, interpersonal, and programming skills, just to name a few. Currently, the committees within UPC include Entertainment, Traditions, Spirit, Culture, and Marketing. The Assistant Director will directly work with one to two of the five UPC committees as well as collaborate with other assistant directors in supporting the UPC Executive Board.
