Statement of the Job:

The University of Maine is in the initial stages of a multi-year major capital program, including new construction and major renovation of academic, research, student life and infrastructure facilities; significant expansion of campus planning and space management processes; and significant expansion and development of its existing space inventory & space management systems.


Provides support to the Director of Space & Capital Management Services, University Planner, Project Managers, and Engineering Center on capital project development, space planning issues related to programming and financial feasibility, and oversight of space inventory and needs.


As part of the UMaine Facility Management team, the University Designer/Architect & Space Manager assists the Director of Space & Capital Management Services with all elements of the university community, including College Deans & Senior Administration; with external contractors and others to facilitate the University’s capital and campus planning activities, the planning and execution of university capital projects, and infrastructure improvements. Typical hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferred in Architecture, Design, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in capital programs, including research university or government experience.
  • Experience in use of Autodesk Infraworks to create site models for future expansions and renovations.
  • Experience in use of Autodesk Revit to model existing structures, new structures and building additions for planning.
  • Ability to communicate and understand complex physical & planning dilemmas and develop strategic & tactical options.
  • Experience in use and development of space inventory systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with internal and external stake holders.
  • Ability to assist professional teams, internal and external, for successful projects.
  • Ability to successfully assist multiple projects and activities with multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, normally requiring a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Professional registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer in the State of Maine.
