Summary
The Department of Psychiatry maintains a large and diverse portfolio of research that is dedicated to increasing our knowledge of depression, bipolar and anxiety disorders, addiction/substance use, and other brain conditions. Our funding comes from many different sources including the National Institutes of Health, State of Michigan, foundations, and industry. We are a large team dedicated to supporting our faculty in all aspects of research administration from proposal planning and submission to post-award project management and closeout.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Administrator to join our team in Psychiatry Grants Administration. The successful candidate will support faculty portfolios of sponsored research proposals and projects while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and University policies. We are looking for someone who has a positive attitude, is eager to learn, and has a passion for providing exceptional customer service to our faculty, project teams, and colleagues within the Department, Medical School, and University. Responsibilities*
Perform pre-award administrative activities for assigned faculty. Activities include but are not limited to developing budgets, budget justifications, preparing Proposal Approval Forms, and other core financial and administrative documents in support of both internal and external grant proposal submissions, ensuring that all applications meet agency and university guidelines, while meeting internal and external deadlines.
Perform post-award administrative activities for assigned faculty. Activities include but are not limited to reconciling, analyzing, and maintaining grant accounts, including forecasting expenses; submitting grant effort changes for faculty and staff; monitoring cost share commitments and Uniform Guidance expenses; reviewing and approving grant-related purchasing expenses; processing budget reallocations, Post-Award Change Requests, Financial Status Reports, and Uniform Guidance Reports; assist with completion of annual progress reports; administration of subcontracts and tracking of invoicing; and investigate/resolve discrepancies in grant accounting.
Required Qualifications*
All applicants must have:
- Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Professional.
- Excellent organizational skills including the ability to set priorities and manage competing deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Exhibit sound judgment while completing tasks with meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to follow-up on open issues through appropriate resolution.
- Positive attitude and commitment to providing excellent customer service in all aspects of the work.
- Understanding of fund accounting rules and Uniform Guidance principles.
- Experience working with a wide variety of grant sponsors, including National Institutes of Health (NIH), foundations, and industry partners.
To be considered for the Senior Level, applicants must have:
- A Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
To be considered for the Intermediate Level, applicants must have:
- A Bachelor's Degree and 3 or more years of grant or contract experience or equivalen combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree in research administration, health administration, public administration, business, or related field.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.
- Experience with both pre- and post-award research administration within the University of Michigan.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Prior experience with M-Pathways, Business Objects, M-Reports, and the University's eResearch Proposal Management System.
Work Schedule
Full Time, Monday-Friday, specific work hours are negotiable.
