Position Summary:
Function as a consultant, educator, practitioner and/or researcher in a specialized area of respiratory care. Use respiratory modalities and procedures to assess and care for patients within the specialized area. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT CARE - Provide direct cardiopulmonary care to patients in assigned area
* PATIENT CARE - Provide patients education and consultation on disease management
* MEDICATIONS - Administer medications, including IV medications, as ordered by physician via the Five Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
* COORDINATION - Consult with physicians to ensure quality of patient care within area of specialty
* QUALITY - Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs
* EQUIPMENT - Coordinate all equipment and supplies for the specialty area; service malfunctioning equipment, develop inventory/stock PAR levels and order supplies; maintain adequate stock level
* EQUIPMENT - Develop respiratory instrument trays for each procedure in the specialty area; inspect instruments, order instruments, and coordinate instrument repairs as necessary
* EDUCATE - Advance clinical knowledge by participation in educational opportunities; educate appropriate staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments for their service; coordinate in-service training/workshops for appropriate staff
* CUSTOMER SERVICE - Ensure customer and patient satisfaction using scripting procedure
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Respiratory Care Practitioner in NM
* Registered Respiratory Therapist
* Expanded Practice Credentials Board Verification
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
