Position Summary | The Accountant II position will be the primary accountant for the Division of Adolescent Medicine. This individual will be required to maintain the fiscal operations of the division including unrestricted revenue and expense budget creation, analysis and preparation of projections, management reporting, reconciliation and monitoring of accounts, variance analysis, and salary analysis. The Accountant II will execute and/or approve various accounting transactions such as journal entries, labor distributions and purchasing transactions. This person will also be assigned as the primary accountant responsible for several sponsored projects (i.e., Grants and Contracts), which will require the ability to gain expertise and knowledge in Restricted Accounting policies and work with the faculty Principal Investigators on various budget and financial process requirements. Knowledge and ability to facilitate adherence to UNM policies and procedures is critical. Excellent communication and collaboration skills and a team-oriented attitude are required to partner with the Pediatrics Accounting Team, Division Chiefs, Administration, and other department/UNM faculty and staff regarding finance policies and procedures or funding requirements. The ideal candidate is a motivated, self-starter with a strong accounting background in both unrestricted and sponsored projects accounting (i.e., Grants and Contracts). Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications | A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance At least 3 years Accounting experience and demonstrated ability in creating budgets and monitoring/analyzing fiscal operations Proficient in MS Excel to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare financial reports Experience working in Banner and MyReports (or similar financial systems) and preparing financial reports Knowledge of standard and/or fund accounting principles, methods and applications Knowledge of Restricted accounting (sponsored projects) Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of organization Ability to initiate various accounting transactions (Journal Entries, labor distribution) Supervisory skills |
