Description
Major functions:
Provides for the protection and welfare of students and employees. Enforces campus rules, policies, and parking regulations. Remains alert to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral, if required, to local law enforcement
Responsibilities and duties (including but not limited to):
Patrols assigned area on foot, in an institutional motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
Responds to criminal activity (or to reports of) and to first aid-level medical needs of the campus community
Complete detailed professional incident reports
Watches for and reports irregularities such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required
Provides escort services for students, staff, and faculty as necessary; provides other public assistance such as lockout services, jump-starts, and routine information
Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons
Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas and/or parking garages to provide public security and assistance
Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses university keys to open and close buildings
Completes daily assignments to support department activities and operations
Inspects fire safety and alarm equipment
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position
Relationships:
Reports directly to the Director of Safety Services
Qualifications:
Ability to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to complete routine paperwork
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Knowledge of policies and procedures
Ability to work independently and confront others in a professional and polite manner
Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures
Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus
Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel

Requirements
Minimum job requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
Conditions of employment:
Possession of a valid driver’s license
Clean driving record
Pass a criminal background check and drug test
Working conditions and physical efforts:
Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks
Work may involve being exposed to all weather conditions and changing temperatures for extended periods
Physically capable of running and defending self or others
Must be able to carry/drag heavy objects
Frequently lifting or carrying up to, but not limited to,150 pounds
Work hours: 2nd Shift, 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
