The Assistant Director for Student and Community Engagement manages Pitt’s Global Hub and coordinates the community engagement efforts of the University Center for International Studies’ Community Engagement Team. The University of Pittsburgh’s Global Hub is a student-centered physical and virtual space that showcases Pitt’s global and international engagement and connects students with opportunities to internationalize their academic curricula and on- and off-campus experiences. The UCIS Community Engagement Team is charged with creating events and resources aimed at strengthening global awareness and ethical engagement among students and educators at Pitt, in Western Pennsylvania, and throughout the U.S. As manager of the Pitt Global Hub, the incumbent is responsible for curating, managing and implementing all activities, programs, initiatives, digital spaces and physical environment of the Hub, with a focus on student and community engagement. This includes, but is not limited to, serving as the primary contact for internationally-focused community engagement, cultivating relevant global programming schedules for activities/events hosted in the Pitt Global Hub; collaborating with university and community partners to develop, facilitate, and support globally-minded and community-engaged co-curricular and experiential opportunities, managing daily operations and room reservations of the physical Hub space; curating digital media environments using specific content management systems; supervising student workers; and collaborating with appropriate schools, departments, centers and other units across campus to showcase international activities in the Pitt Global Hub. In addition, they must have experience working with students and educators in higher education; the ability to obtain concrete and effective results in this setting; an understanding of international and global issues; a commitment to the pursuit of high-quality education; as well as the ability to understand data collection and analysis, familiarity with assessment tools, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Assistant Director for Student and Community Engagement will exhibit a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, be an agent of positive community change, make and communicate difficult decisions effectively.
Experience in an international or intercultural environment. Experience with needs assessment and program development. Experience in digital curation and content management systems. Master’s degree in international education, intercultural communication, student affairs, or related field preferred. Experience working, living or studying abroad preferred. Demonstrable experience in community engagement, project planning, and/or event management. The candidate will be required to provide a portfolio of relevant experience as part of the interview process.
