Work Schedule
Student Health Services hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. The normal work schedules for staff are typically Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Hours may be adjusted to accommodate SHS’ hours of operation. Sunday (12:00pm-6:00pm) rotation may be required. Hours may include early mornings and/or evening and altered schedules based on the nature of the position and workload. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department. Position is considered essential personnel.

Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Provides high-quality patient care within the Primary Care department of the University of South Carolina’s Student Health Services (SHS), a vibrant and highly rewarding position in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH). As a licensed physician in a college health environment, provides team-based primary care within approved privileges, SHS scope of practice, and AAAHC medical home standards. Physician follows evidence-based practices in evaluating and treating patients, performs indicated office-based procedures, and promotes patient access and inclusive care. Incorporates wellness and prevention into patient visits through discussion and/or provision of educational materials and resources. Coordinates patient care, consultations, and referrals within the department and with other University, state, and community providers. Exercises final medical judgment in all issues of health care. Participates in quality improvement, practice improvement initiatives, and other patient care programs established by the health center. Oversees advanced practice providers as well as nursing staff and provides leadership to the care team. Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations. Works cooperatively and productively in a multi-disciplinary group practice setting, which includes Women’s Health, Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy, Psychiatry, Counseling, Nursing, Healthy Campus Initiatives, sexual health, violence prevention programs, and other ancillary departments. A physician is considered essential personnel and is required to report to campus during weather-related closures and campus emergencies. Limited weekend and occasional evening work as required to meet patient care needs and in the event of a campus emergency. The individual is required to undergo Peer Review quarterly and maintain credentialing and privileges.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 4 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. Graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of an internship or 1-year residency training, and 2 years experience as a physician. Board Certified in Specialty area and maintained throughout employment. Licensed or eligible (unrestricted) to practice medicine in the State of South Carolina. DEA Certificate required. Obtain and maintain credentialing, privileging, and Board Certification. BLS for Healthcare certification or the ability to acquire
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in college health or working with adolescents and young adults in primary care or emergency/urgent care setting. Prefer experience in PCMH or team-based care and focus on quality care and patient satisfaction. Prefer a physician with leadership or supervisory experience or an interest in developing leadership skills.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures. Ability to deal tactfully, positively, and productively with patients, staff, parents, and University administrators. Demonstrated ability to work with other professionals collaboratively to set and achieve goals. Ability to work in a high-volume clinical practice setting with ability to prioritize and multitask. Ability to work in PPE and follow standard infection prevention and control practices.
