Our Dispatchers are often the first point of contact between the community and emergency responders and help coordinate a response to all calls received.
Dispatchers must present a positive, supportive, and friendly professional image to those who call or come in to seek assistance.
Dispatchers operate with the highest degree of integrity and ethical behavior, as they often handle sensitive and confidential information.
Leveraging their knowledge and service skills, Dispatchers must be able to quickly assess any situation and ensure the proper responses to calls while maintaining an accurate record of each call or incident.

Dispatchers are paid based upon certification : $19.44 / hour non-certified; $19.86 / hour certified. Non-certified dispatchers are required to obtain appropriate certification within one year of employment, and will receive a step increase to be commensurate with certified dispatchers.
This position is a full-time position located on our Gorham Campus. Work schedule / shift is assigned according to Unit seniority, with likelihood that this will be an overnight shift.
There is a shift differential of either $1.00 / hour or $2.00 / hour for eligible shifts.

- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification : $15 / week ($ / year)

- Master's degree : $30 / week ($1, / year)

- Prior public safety experience is desirable, but we will train the right person.
- Must possess certifications or be able to complete the Certified Terminal Operator and Emergency Telecommunicator courses through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy within one year of employment.
- Familiarity with telephone and radio dispatching equipment is a plus. A background investigation is required, including criminal records check and fingerprinting.
